PARISH COUNCIL ELECTIONS – 2ND MAY 2019

Would you like to become a Parish Councillor?

There are many reasons why people stand for election as a Parish Councillor. Often it is because they want:

  • to speak on behalf of their local community and to help local people and represent their needs and concerns
  • to pursue their political beliefs and aspirations
  • to offer their personal or professional skills to assist the work of the Council

Councillors are elected for 4 year terms of office and if you are interested in becoming a parish councillor, why not take a look at ‘It takes all sorts‘ (NALC Publication) and fThe Electoral Commission – Guide for Candidates.

You can apply for a Nomination Pack which needs to be delivered back by hand by the deadline to EDDC at Honiton at 4.00pm Wednesday, 3rd April 2019.

Axminster Local Police Team – Point of Contact (24/07/2018)

Hello,

We have had a small re-organisation in the Axminster Neighbourhood Police Team and I thought that I would take the opportunity to introduce myself (although I know I have already met some of you) as the Police Community Support Officer with primary responsibility for the rural areas around Axminster – Musbury, All Saints, Kilmington, Dalwood, Hawkchurch, Chardstock, Wilmington, Uplyme, Membury, Shute and Stockland. I work closely with PC Simon Aldred and PCSO Hayley Widger (PCSO with primary responsibility for Axminster Town) and also our Sergeant, PS Karen Bunt.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any issues that you wish to raise with your local Police team (except of course those incidents that are best reported via 999 or 101), require some advice or would like us to attend a specific event or meeting. In turn, I would be grateful if you could respond to this email to confirm the names and contact details (email and phone number) of each of the Parish clerks, so that I can ensure that my contact list is up to date.

I am also aware that many, if not all, of the parishes have a Parish magazine and website – please could you let me know the name of the publication and the best person to contact – I would like to ensure that each magazine has the team’s up to date details and it would be very useful if we could put articles in the publication from time to time (for example, to advertise Devon and Cornwall Alert or to make people aware of the methods of engaging with the team, including our website and Facebook page).

I look forward to working with you all.

With thanks and kind regards,

Chris

Latest News on Gigaclear Broadband Roll Out in Uplyme Village

My name is Daniel Langworthy-Smith and I am the wayleave officer that represents the ultra-fast fibre installation company – Gigaclear. You may be aware, but we have been instructed by Connecting Devon and Somerset and Broadband Delivery UK to roll out a new ultra-fast network that can provide 1gb of internet to rural properties. Uplyme is one of our areas and I am making contact as I feel that it is important for our build but also the residents to know exactly what will be happening over the next couple of months.

Below I have attached some links that will explain who we are, what we do and why we are doing it for. You will see that we also have government backing and farmer union backing.

The process requires us to sometimes gain access onto private property and we would like to give people the opportunity to contact us with any questions before they agree to the agreement that will be sent out.

Could we suggest arranging a parish meeting that we could come along to and speak with the residents about our proposals?

I have attached above a copy of the build plan for Uplyme which you are able to include onto your webpage.

Uplyme Website Privacy Notice – May 2018

GDPR (General Data Protection Regulations) is a whole system of regulations, systems, rights and principles that aims to protect the personal data of every EU citizen. The GDPR legislation documents are huge and set out to give a person more rights over the data that an organisation holds on them, but in a nutshell, the main points are as follows:

  • A person can request to see all the details that you hold on them both in human and machine readable format.
  • A person can request that you delete all the personal data that is held by an organisation
  • You need to state a valid reason for gathering and processing their data
  • You need to ask for consent when you gather data
  • You need to provide people with a way of withdrawing that consent at any time.
  • You need to take precautions to protect personal data that you have gathered
